DE KOFFER / On a Tuesday morning in November, Kris and I were walking from the Elandsgracht to the Oude Looiergracht, when we saw a white Samsonite suitcase on the pavement by the refuse. It was a ‘70’s model. I thought it was beautiful. In fact, really beautiful. I wanted to have it. Unfortunately we were on our way to an important meeting. However, we decided that if it was still standing there on the way back, we wouldn’t hesitate to take it with us. The suitcase was still standing there. On returning home we discovered a life. On a Tuesday morning in November we had discovered distinctive, almost obsolete possesions. The suitcase had a salmon pink satin lining with the initials LK on the locks. Its interior smelt musty and there were yellow marks on the lining. A yellow memosheet was stuck on the suitcase with the tekst “furcoat, raincoat, cardigan, jumper.” The white, 70’s suitcase contained the following items: 1. An electric sewing machine pedal. 2. A photo album. 3. A Vroom & Dreesman bag. 4. A course manual Working with …. WordPerfect 5.0/5.1 by J. de Jong. 5. A course manual Dutch Folk art, learning to paint Hindelooper, Assendelfter, Amelander, Zeeuwse and Staphorster motives by J. Zuidema. 6. A plastic wrapper of a vinyl, flannel backed Christmas tablecloth (132x178cm) 7. A piece of material with an embroidered flower titled Danish Gold. 8. A piece of material with LK embroidered on it. 9. A wall lamp 10. A “best wishes” post-card. 11. A lamp switch. 12. A piece of bubble wrap 13. A diary. Image 01 in cooperation with Kris Hartman
